HTEC, on June 18, 2026, went ahead and announced the opening of the First 700-bar clean hydrogen refueling station in Canada, located on Tsawwassen First Nation – TFN industrial lands at the Chevron Commercial Cardlock in Tsawwassen, British Columbia.
The establishment of the first 700-bar clean hydrogen refueling station in Canada represents a tangible step forward in the effort to introduce hydrogen-powered trucking in one of the most difficult sectors to decarbonize in Canada. Both B.C. Hydrogen Truck Pilot Project as well as B.C. Hydrogen Ports Project are funding the first deployment of 12 Class 7 and 8 fuel cell electric trucks as part of this project. These vehicles are expected to be used in drayage as well as regional freight routes and will assist in integrating hydrogen into everyday fleet operations and further expand the Metro Vancouver Hydrogen Transportation Hub of HTEC.
Delivered as an element of the more comprehensive H2 Gateway Program, the hub indicates that the hydrogen infrastructure in British Columbia is sufficiently prepared to enable fleet deployment as well as real-world transportation activity. The hub combines production, distribution, and end use, including a 1.8-tonne-per-day clean hydrogen production facility of HTECย in Burnaby, which isย a light-duty hydrogen refueling network and now aย commercial heavy-duty refueling capability in Tsawwassen.
Notably, the Tsawwassen Heavy-Duty Hydrogen Station became operational with the assistance of important collaborators such as Tsawwassen First Nation –ย TFN – the landowner , cardlock owner Sunoco LP, financing from the Canada Infrastructure Bank –ย CIBย and financing from Natural Resources Canada –ย NRCanย and the Government of British Columbia via its low-carbon fuel program and the Innovative Clean Energy –ย ICEย Fund. The partnership with TFN during siting, approval, and growth is a reflection of a shared commitment to responsible growth and environmental responsibility, with artwork created by local TFN artists providing a sense of place.
HTEC also acknowledges contributions throughout the hydrogen value chain, such as that of Powertech Labs – the station equipment provider and original equipment manufacturer – OEM along with vehicle integration partners like Unilia and Hyundai Motor Company, as well as Elemental Trucks. These organizations operate in various jurisdictions; however the project is located in British Columbia, which is where the hydrogen is produced and used, promoting local business operations and assisting to develop B.C. knowledge and innovation.
The project is further supported due toย early fleet participation, with special acknowledgment to Harbour Link Container Services –ย B.C. Hydrogen Ports Projectย and Triple Eight Transport –ย B.C. Hydrogen Truck Pilot Project, who will be the first to lease as well asย manage two XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks from Hyundai Motors making use ofย this station.
