A leader when it comes to the development of alternative transportation stations, Clean Energy Fuels Corp., disclosed that it was awarded a $27.5m contract by OCTA – Orange County Transportation Authority to develop and construct a new private hydrogen fuelling station at the Garden Grove bus base of OCTA.
Apparently, the new station will be home to the growing fleet of zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell buses. Clean Energy as per the $27.5m contract by OCTA will offer design-build services for the hydrogen station along with facility upgrades, in addition to operations & repair and maintenance services and also liquid hydrogen fuel supply. The project is due to be finished by 2028.
OCTA maintains a fleet of hydrogen fuel cell, battery-electric and compressed natural gas – CNG buses at present and plans to transition to a 100% zero-emission bus fleet by 2040, as required by Innovative Clean Transit – ICT regulations in California. OCTA currently runs 10 hydrogen fuel-cell buses and hopes to operate 40 more by the point that this fuelling station is constructed.
It is worth noting that OCTA is recognized as a forward-looking transit agency that maintains its commitment to invest in clean transportation technology, says Senior Account Manager at Clean Energy, Alphonse Anderson.
He adds, “As they expand their hydrogen fleet, we’re honored to help deliver the infrastructure that will support those operations for years to come. Clean Energy is headquartered in Orange County and has built hydrogen stations for other Southern Californian transit agencies, so being selected to build OCTA’s station locally makes this project especially meaningful for our team.”
OCTA is one of the largest transportation agencies based in Southern California providing bus service for more than 3.1 million residents of the county and also overseeing regional transportation strategy, road upgrades, and rail programs. The agency runs, maintains and fuels buses from four sites, such as Garden Grove bus base, where this new hydrogen station is going to be located.
