Nobian, along with Air Products, which is a global industrial gases leader and the largest hydrogen supplier in the world, entered into a long-term contract for the off-take of RFNBO-compliant hydrogen produced at the Rotterdam facility of Nobian.
The certified RFNBO hydrogen is produced at a renewables-powered chlor-alkali electrolysis plant in Nobian, which in 2025 officially became the first large-scale European renewable hydrogen producer to be awarded an ISCC EU certification for RFNBO.
The plant from Nobian in Rotterdam is the largest RFNBO-certified hydrogen plant in Europe, which has an annual hydrogen production capacity of over 14,000 tonnes.
Air Products is supporting RED III mandates in the Netherlands and also strengthening the position of Rotterdam as a hydrogen hub, supplying RFNBO-compliant certified hydrogen via its existing facilities. The agreement to off-take of RFNBO-compliant hydrogen expands the existing network of Air Products to provide RFNBO-certified hydrogen, enabling customers to achieve their compliance and decarbonization objectives.

These certified molecules are available today, and Air Products’ network can bring them to market in a reliable and practical way.”
RFNBO-certified hydrogen will support fuel suppliers and industrial hydrogen users such as refineries in order to meet the decarbonization objectives of the EU for 2030. By 2030, a minimum of 1% of transport fuels and 42% of industry hydrogen in the EU should come from RFNBO-certified sources.
