In a recent development, Sweco is taking over the central services in land management and right of way for HYBOR, the proposed hydrogen pipeline in East Germany at Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony, as well as Thuringia. The roughly 120-kilometer pipeline from Bobbau in Saxony-Anhalt to Rückersdorf in Thuringia forms a part of the German hydrogen core network and aims to reinforce the industrial location of eastern Germany.
Land management for approximately 120 kilometers of hydrogen infrastructure
Sweco offers services including ownership research, land negotiations, support for rights of way related to construction, and liaison with interested parties along the planned route. In the course of around 16 months, talks are planned with numerous owners, managers, and various other contact persons. Sweco provides an important foundation for the further planning, approval, and execution of the hydrogen pipeline.
Contribution toward climate-neutral energy supply in Central Germany
At the same time as the roadwork, preliminary subsoil tests and ecological mapping of flora and fauna are being carried out for this proposed hydrogen pipeline in East Germany. The results are compiled in documents necessary for the procedure of planning approval.
According to Falk Paulick, Head of Land Management East at Sweco, “In an infrastructure project of this size, transparent, careful, and technically sound communication with owners and managers is crucial. With our experience in route management and land management, we are helping to create the basis for a sustainable hydrogen infrastructure.”
HYBOR as part of the German hydrogen core network
It is well to be noted that HYBOR is short for Hydrogen Bo bbau Rückersdorf. The German gearbox system operator GASCADE will set up the hydrogen pipeline as part of the infrastructure program – Flow – making hydrogen happen and is to be finished by 2029. It links presently existing pipelines, which will in the future be utilized for hydrogen transport, and eliminates a major void in the hydrogen grid. The project therefore promotes the supply of climate-neutral hydrogen to industry, storage, and various other customers in Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony as well as Thuringia.
