For the very first time, Germany is putting together the complete framework to scale the introduction of hydrogen trucks in Europe by 2030 with favourable policy frameworks and a robust OEM proposition, as well as an integrated hydrogen supply chain and infrastructure.
Interestingly, Volvo Group, Daimler Truck AG, Toyota Motor Corporation, Bosch, Air Liquide, TEAL Mobility, TotalEnergies, MB Energy and other companies are aiming to accelerate or jointly work on the commercialization when it comes to hydrogen-powered mobility and create the environment that is necessary to scale it across the entire value chain, including vehicles, infrastructure and supply.
Activities go on to include the rollout of hydrogen refuelling stations along some significant strategic corridors in Europe in parallel with the hydrogen-powered truck fleet and an aggressive hydrogen price. This will allow customers to run hydrogen-powered vehicles at a competitive overall cost of ownership.
Notably, the full details will be revealed at a press event led by the CEO during IAA Transportation in Hanover to be held on September 15, 2026.
It is worth noting that transport, energy and industry leaders, along with German policymakers, are joining forces to create a standard for a completely integrated hydrogen-powered mobility, especially for heavy-duty transport. They have a shared goal so as to scale hydrogen around customer-focused refuelling infrastructure and competitively priced hydrogen fuel.
To deliver a full hydrogen framework that will support battery-electric solutions, synchronised developments along the entire value chain are needed, with a focus on commercializing competitively priced vehicles, setting up strategically located refuelling infrastructure that aligns with customer needs, and guaranteeing dependable access to hydrogen at acceptable price levels. These factors can come together to support a competitive overall cost of ownership and make hydrogen a viable, scalable option as far as zero-emission transport is concerned.
