AI Summary

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy – PGE, Indonesiaโ€™s state energy company, plans to start production through its small-scale green hydrogen pilot project in Indonesia based out of Ulubelu, Lampung, by the end of 2026, Indonesia Business Post went on to report.

PGE’s President Director Ahmad Yani stated that the green hydrogen facility is planned as a non-commercial project with a production capacity of 80-100 kilograms per day. The investment is estimated at approximately $3 million, the report said.

It is to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2026 with a three-year trial period, Ahmad said at the inauguration of a green terminal project.

The trial phase of the green hydrogen pilot project in Indonesia will be a proof of concept to see if it would work in practice, he said. The project uses Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolyser technology and is expected to be the worldโ€™s first hydrogen production facility using geothermal energy, the report added.

The development of green hydrogen is planned to be integrated into the wider ecosystem of the Pertamina Group, including in the mobility sector, including the potential for green hydrogen refuelling stations, industrial applications and fuel cell generators.
