Nama Power and Water Procurement Company – PWP has gone ahead and launched a new tender for 800MW-1,000MW green hydrogen for power generation in the Sultanate of Oman. The company is bringing in a techno-economic consultant so as to evaluate the viability in terms of establishing an Independent Power Project – IPP that can operate on hydrogen. The move is part of Oman’s broader strategy to embrace cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions in line with its long-term energy transition goals.
The main goal of this consultancy is to carry out a preliminary analysis for a power plant that can operate with up to 100% hydrogen. The project is expected to be large, with a proposed capacity of between 800MW and 1,000MW. If developed, this would be one of the major moves towards using hydrogen as a reliable fuel for the generation of electricity in the region. It also mirrors the country’s push to reduce carbon emissions and transition to a low-carbon energy system.
The green hydrogen for power generation tender is issued under the reference number OPWP/2026/011. The announcement said that the purchase of tender documents is going to start from May 4, 2026, and end on May 31, 2026. Interested companies can obtain the documents online from the official website of the procurement company. The normal charge for the documents is 105 Omani Rial. However, small and medium enterprises – SMEs with a valid Riyada card can access the documents free of charge to encourage local businesses to participate.
It is well to note that all the bidders have to adhere to the established submission rules. The deadline for the submission of proposals will be 21 June 2026 at 12:00 PM Oman time. All bids shall be accompanied by a tender bond or a certified bank cheque, which is going to be an amount of not less than 1% of the total bid value. The bond has to be valid for 120 days from the date of submission. This would make sure that participating companies are committed to the process.
Nama PWP apparently has a key role to play when it comes to Oman’s electricity and water sector. It is responsible for the procurement of new capacity as per the needs of the country. It operates under the framework of Royal Decree 78/2004. The latest tender goes on to highlight the focus of the company on the adoption of advanced and clean technologies in the energy sector.
This initiative is indeed a significant step for Oman in terms of exploring hydrogen as a future energy source. The project could very well pave the way for new opportunities for innovation, investment and sustainable development in the country’s power sector. Companies interested may contact the procurement office for further details and clarifications as per the official tender notice.
