In a recent move, Alfa Laval will offer electrolyzer cooling equipment for Onuba H2 project, Spain which is a large-scale green hydrogen project located at La Rábida Energy Park in Huelva, Spain. The facility will start with 300 megawatts of electrolysis capacity, with the potential to add another 105 megawatts that could produce 45,000 metric tonnes of green hydrogen per year. As the industrial foundation for the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley, which is the largest renewable hydrogen endeavour in Spain and also one of the most ambitious projects in Europe, Onuba is anticipated to be an important player when it comes to the decarbonization of transport and industrial processes.
It is well to be noted that the agreement to supply electrolyzer cooling equipment will see Alfa Laval offering 60 heat exchangers to Moeve – the Spanish energy company – for usage in balance-of-plant cooling and electrolyzer cooling as well as gas-cooling applications. The equipment is intended to sustain the hydrogen production process at ideal operating temperatures in order to ensure productivity and dependability, as well as secure operation at an industrial scale.

Once in complete operation, it is projected to be the largest green hydrogen plant in Southern Europe, providing renewable hydrogen for industrial uses as well as the production of low-carbon fuels.
