AI Summary

Uniper Hydrogen GmbH unveils Open Season for capacity at the planned hydrogen import terminal located at Wilhelmshaven.

It is worth noting that the Wilhelmshaven hydrogen import terminal will allow importing hydrogen via ammonia. When the ammonia is taken out, it will be broken down on-site in a large-scale ammonia cracker, and the resulting hydrogen will be fed into the German core hydrogen network. There are also proper rail loading facilities for the safe and efficient movement of ammonia through rails. The project is an important part of the future hydrogen infrastructure of Germany, with a yearly import capacity of almost 2.6 million tonnes of ammonia, which is equivalent to approx. 350,000 tonnes of hydrogen.

The Open Season for capacity consists of a pair of successive phases. The first phase consists of prospective market participants providing an expression of interest indicating the capacity they prefer to have and paying a participation fee. In the allocation procedure, the capacity booking will be confirmed: The second phase will involve the issuance of Heads of Terms which will form the foundation of the Terminal Use Agreement to be agreed upon with the participating shippers. The process culminates with the execution of the Terminal Use Agreement and a legally binding capacity booking.

Interested parties have the opportunity to register for the Open Season and submit the required documentation for KYC and creditability checks via e-mail – h2-terminal-whv@uniper.energy – till 15 June 2026, 23:59 CEST, in order to receive additional information on requirements of participation along with timelines.
