The General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, in partnership with the United Nations for Industrial Development – UNIDO has made public the launch of the Clean Hydrogen National Program in Egypt to accelerate Egypt’s transition to a competitive green hydrogen-based economy.
The program is scheduled to support the execution of an integrated package of activities so as to enhance the readiness of Egypt for green hydrogen investments, including preparing pre-feasibility studies along with performance studies for priority projects, offering technical support along with support in preparing policies, and strengthening the institutional and national capabilities, besides contributing to supporting the development of a Center of Excellence for green hydrogen based at the economic headquarters of the Suez Canal in the heat.
It is well to be noted that Egypt has a key role to play in the program, which is part of the Global Clean Hydrogen Program implemented by UNIDO and is funded by the Global Environment Facility – GEF and goes on to include 10 countries.
The Clean Hydrogen National Program in Egypt is being carried out through an integrated institutional partnership framework that involves a number of national and international energy and industrial development sectors. Apparently, the steering committee has been established to supervise the implementation and includes members from the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, UNIDO as the executing party, as well as the Ministry of the Environment as the national of communication for the facility. The Ministry of Electricity, the Global Environment, and Renewable Energy and the Ministry of Industry will guarantee the effective institutional coordination and follow-up on execution of the program operations in line with the priorities of the country, in collaboration with the Supreme Council for Green Hydrogen.
