With a continuity to drill, companies are intending to position themselves at the forefront of this new progress that could play a part in the worldwide shift to decarbonization.
MAX Power Mining Corp. has gone on to announce substantial progress when it comes to its commercial validation drilling at the Lawson Complex located in the south-central Saskatchewan, where it has currently triangulated a large natural hydrogen system and further enhanced it with new drill findings. The company said the successful completion of the Lawson 3 well, in addition to the drilling of the Lawson 4 well, which is over 2 km to the west, has confirmed and expanded the system, strengthening the prospect for this emerging energy resource.
It is well to be noted that Lawson 4 intersected what the company considers to be a major deep crustal fault or conduit at 2,310.5 meters. This, apparently, is the highest recorded natural hydrogen level to this point at the Lawson project, with readings continuing to be high as drilling progresses via a highly cracked Precambrian basement complex. These findings indicate the region may contain high levels of naturally produced hydrogen, which is garnering growing interest as a clean energy source.
Interestingly, MAX Power is getting ready to drill Lawson 5, its biggest step-out hole so far, in addition to its drilling progress. This well targets the edge of the Salt Wall, which is a geological formation about 27 to 31 kilometers northeast of the present drilling site.
The step-out was intended to assess the lateral scope of the natural hydrogen system and could add substantially to the known resource area.
In order to support these efforts, the company has added 8 new Natural Hydrogen permit parcels totaling roughly 470,000 acres, which brings its overall permitted land position in Saskatchewan to about 2.5 million acres. This district-scale landholding establishes MAX Power as a key player when it comes to the exploration of natural hydrogen in Canada.
It is worth noting that the Lawson Discovery, close to Central Butte, Saskatchewan, is the first verified subsurface natural hydrogen system in Canada from deep drilling with data from three independent laboratories. The large land position of the company includes prime exploration ground potential for large-volume deposits of natural hydrogen, which may provide a low-carbon substitute to traditional methods of producing hydrogen.
In addition to its Natural Hydrogen projects, MAX Power also possesses an array of properties in the US and Canada centered around critical minerals. This includes a diamond drilling discovery in 2024 at the Willcox Playa Lithium Project in southeast Arizona, 100% owned by the U.S. subsidiary of MAX Power. The company is dedicated to ethical exploration and development procedures that emphasize accountability for the environment, significant community involvement, and solid corporate governance.
Lawson is a part of the increasing interest in naturally produced hydrogen as a clean energy source, and its work on the natural hydrogen system is an instance of that.
