Nikkiso Co., Ltd. is happy to announce that it supplied a liquefied hydrogen pump skid to Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. and Kobe Steel, Ltd. for their Technological Development for Efficiency Improvement and advancement of hydrogen fuel supply system in a Regional Model of Hydrogen CGS project in the Port Island area of Kobe City.
Kawasaki Heavy Industries is demonstrating a liquefied hydrogen pump that is being used as a key part of the world’s first next-generation hydrogen fuel supply system. As part of advancement of hydrogen fuel supply system, pressurization is used to raise the pressure to above critical levels and an intermediate medium type liquefied hydrogen vaporizer – IFV.
About the liquefied hydrogen pump delivered this time
This time, the liquefied hydrogen pump is a very reliable model made by the group’s Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group – CE&IG Group. They have delivered more than 450 liquefied hydrogen pumps around the world.
Its main feature is that it can efficiently pressurize hydrogen to high pressure while it is still a liquid. This uses a lot less power than methods that compress hydrogen when it is a gas. This helps the whole power generation facility save energy and lower its operating costs.
Nikkiso’s engineering division, which has been making pumps for the Japanese market for many years, improved the design to meet the Japanese market’s strict rules and standards, such as the High-Pressure Gas Safety Act. They have gone on to create a way to handle liquefied hydrogen that is safe, reliable, and efficient in the cryogenic range by combining the technological strengths of the Nikkiso Group.
