The Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa – SEFA from the African Development Bank has opened proposals call for new Green Hydrogen Programme – GH. This is open to businesses in the private sector that are working on green hydrogen and derivatives projects in Africa.
The Green Hydrogen program, which was first funded by the German government and approved at the end of 2025, will give three to five top-ranked projects that are chosen through the Call for Proposals up to $20 million in pre-investment financing, subject to due diligence.
Usually, financing would come from reimbursable grants for advisory services that help move things along toward the final investment decision and/or financial close stages. These services could include feasibility studies, engineering design so as to get ready for procurement, construction, and transaction advisory services.
According to the Director of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Department, AfDB, Dr. Daniel Schroth, “Green hydrogen represents a real opportunity for Africa, both to decarbonize hard-to-abate industries and to build new value chains while contributing to socio-economic development. The SEFA Green Hydrogen Programme is designed to contribute to the transition of projects from development to bankability, considering the rigor that is required in supporting an emerging sector.”
As for the proposals call for new Green Hydrogen Programme, the time for application starts at 09:30 GMT on April 10, 2026. One must send in the proposals through sefaafrica.org by 17:00 Abidjan time on May 11, 2026.
