The city of Busan in South Korea will work with SK Innovation E&S in order to create an eco-friendly energy framework based on hydrogen and AI. The city is also expanding its foundation when it comes to international cooperation in climate and energy, with the addition of Indonesian government officials, academics as well as startups.
Busan confirmed it will have “2026 I’m in Busan Day” at the Busan Port International Exhibition & Convention Center – BPEX on the 8th. The event will be attended by over 200 people, which includes officials from the Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs of Indonesia and the University of Indonesia, representatives of SK Innovation E&S, as well as prominent figures from domestic universities and the hydrogen and eco-friendly energy industries.
It is well to be noted that I’m in Busan, a 700 million won a year industry-academia-government cooperation platform that was launched in July 2024 after SK Innovation E&S chose Busan as a partner city in terms of regional cooperation. It aims to drive forward the hydrogen-centric energy shift and establish a regionally rooted cooperative ecosystem.
This year’s event in addition to eco-friendly energy framework based on hydrogen and AI, also includes the Korea-Indonesia Green Tech Startup Summit, with keynote speeches along with panel discussions on the dissemination of AI-based climate solutions and both countries’ cooperation in terms of climate and energy industries. This will be followed by business matching meetings between the Indonesian delegation and the members of the startup ecosystem and also visits to various industrial sites.
At the venue, 10 companies participating in I’m in Busan and 5 outstanding startup teams will exhibit eco-friendly and climate tech technologies and products in an exhibition hall. There will be a total of 20 interactive stalls where residents can learn about clean energy policies.
A side event, the Busan Impact Hackathon on the application of AI to the solution of climate change, is going to hold a presentation of results and an awards event. The Busan mayor will award one of the teams that has outstanding results.
The chief of the city’s bureau of advanced industries, Park Dong-seok, said Busan is pioneering a new way to address climate and industrial challenges by linking AI with the hydrogen and eco-friendly energy industries. Park added the city believes the event will be an opportunity for Korea and Indonesia to advance technology and talent jointly.
