Moeve and ArcelorMittal have joined forces in innovation, energy solutions and industrial capabilities to create a new vehicle that carries out projects with a direct impact on the competitiveness and sustainability of the productive fabric.
The new platform, Green Molecules to Green Steel (G2G), has been created under an alliance to develop, scale and deploy disruptive technologies to enable green molecules to accelerate the transition to low-emission steel and industrial decarbonisation.
The new platform, created at 50% by both companies, will have its own funds to undertake the different projects, in which Sekuens, the Agency of Science, Business Competitiveness as well as Asturian Innovation will also participate, by means of the present and future vehicles available for the advancement of innovation in Asturias.
Other public authorities, be they regional or national or private entities, may be involved in the future, as long as they are consistent with the goals and the framework of this system.
This transversal and public-private collaboration will aim at developing industrial demonstrators to be scaled afterward in their production centers. The Green Molecules to Green Steel alliance is focused on green molecules like biomethane and biogas, renewable hydrogen and second-generation derivatives and biofuels, as well as other solutions to accelerate decarbonization within the new industrial model, via a hub that is driven by the innovation centers of Moeve and ArcelorMittal. These laboratories foster innovative and revolutionary methods when it comes to CO 22 capture, assessing these molecules, biotechnology that enables the ability to enhance manufacturing procedures, or artificial intelligence implemented in the creation of new materials. It is an open and collaborative framework that reinforces the innovative fabric, generates possibilities for startups and universities along with technology centers and promotes an influx of talent.

Opines Vice President of ArcelorMittal and Chief Technology Officer of ArcelorMittal, Pinakin Chaubal, “We need to continue exploring technologies that will enable us to achieve sustainable production environmentally and economically, and we must come to it as soon as possible. In addition to the direct effect in both companies, this platform will have a strong impact on the empowerment of the innovative ecosystem in Asturias, accelerating even more technological companies with a growth of gazelle and cutting-edge in areas such as security or biofuels.”
G2G supports Moeve’s objective of speeding up the energy change by means of collaborative innovation so as to transform energy, chemistry and mobility and the goals of ArcelorMittal of a responsible shift to steel produced with minimal 2CO2 emissions.
Through its roadmap, Positive Motion, Moeve has set itself the task of pioneering the energy revolution from 2030 with large-scale initiatives like its new second-generation biofuels plant, presently under construction, and the establishment of the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley. With substantial investments and a clearly innovative nature, ArcelorMittal has in Spain its two main low-emission steel projects in Europe, which are at Sestao (XCarb®) recycled and renewablely produced for flat products, and at Gijón for long products.
