One of the major producers as well as suppliers of renewable green hydrogen looks forward to placing the first major order with Rheinmetall, the technology corporation in hydrogen storage and transport systems, with a contract volume amounting to almost the mid-double-digit million-euro range.

A letter of intent When it comes to the framework contract, as far as the mid-double-digit million-euro range goes, it happens to include the delivery of multiple hundred multiple-element gas containers (MEGC) of numerous sizes.

These MEGCs get used to in order to transport large quantities of technical gases like hydrogen and go on to play a very critical role when it comes to future climate-neutral energy supplies. Due to this letter of intent, the technology corporation has gone on to reach a very important landmark, comparing its short history of MEGC creations. The first MEGC is scheduled to be rolled out at the beginning of next year. The customer happens to be a major European manufacturer and supplier in terms of renewable green hydrogen.

According to INVENT H2 business field manager Philipp Engl, “We are very proud of having acquired our first major customer for our innovative product in such a short time, and thus can further establish the recently set-up business field of hydrogen storage and transport systems for Rheinmetall.”

The innovative multiple element gas container from Rheinmetall happens to be equipped with advanced type-IV hydrogen pressure tanks that enable pressure of almost 700 bar. Such kinds of pressure tanks happen to be characterized by very short winding times, reduced usage of carbon fibers, and also an increased capacity in terms of storage. The system goes on to offer a very convenient all-in-one solution that also has in it smart service along with maintenance support. The scalable length of this pressure tank is anywhere between 20 and 40 feet; the containers can go on to hold almost 1000 kg of hydrogen.

The national hydrogen strategy is looking forward to making Germany a climate-neutral country by 2045, which is in accordance with the strategy and will need a higher demand for hydrogen. Being the energy source for the years to come, hydrogen is expected to play a very critical role in the future energy mix. Due to this context, transportation of hydrogen, which is a key energy source, plays a very crucial role so as to make sure of an efficient as well as secure supply chain, particularly when it comes to industrial customers. The MEGC from Rheinmetall goes on to fully comply with regulations in terms of movement by way of all common modes of transport, such as road, rail, and inland shipping, and at the same time makes sure of safety and efficiency standards as far as storage and transport are concerned. Besides this, the corporation also goes on to offer its own trailers as a safe transport medium for the transport of containers.

The promising conversations at present being held with more potential customers stress Rheinmetall’s prospects when it comes to gaining a stronger foothold as far as future-oriented hydrogen markets and having innovative solutions are concerned.

The power system division within the Rheinmetall Corporation happens to be a system supplier as far as high-quality and innovative solutions are concerned. In addition to this, it also controls other technologies as well as digital applications for automotive and energy industries.

This happens to include balance-of-plants elements when it comes to hydrogen fuel cell systems along with electrodes for electrolysis. The portfolio is getting expanded in order to include hydro and storage and transport systems like multiple element gas containers – MEGCs. This kind of expansion happens to be a core aspect of Rheinmetall’s overall hydrogen strategy that has an objective of replacing fossil fuels with green hydrogen. This strategy stresses the development as well as advancement as far as hydrogen technologies are concerned in areas such as storage, production, distribution, and usage, and along with it, the development of innovative fuel cell solutions in order to support zero emissions mobility and even the decarbonization of various industries.
