Rockcheck Group will provide 1,000 hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks to Baotou, Inner Mongolia, for a zero-carbon freight corridor project incorporating green hydrogen generation, refueling, and fleet management.
The project will debut 100 vehicles in 2025 and scale up by 2026, with new logistical hubs and hydrogen stations powered by local wind and solar electrolysers.
Rockcheck Group, Jiuyuan District government in Baotou, and Huadian Hydrogen Energy will install 1,000 hydrogen fuel-cell heavy-duty vehicles by 2026. Rockcheck’s 200kW fuel-cell systems co-developed with Geely will power the first 100 trucks with 700km-range before the end of the year. Baotou’s hydrogen transportation demonstration project links truck deployment to green hydrogen generation and large-scale refueling infrastructure.
A hydrogen logistics park with truck operations, digital fleet management, and high-capacity refueling stations will support wind- and solar-powered hydrogen electrolysers and “production-storage-transport-use” infrastructure. “This initiative shows how clean hydrogen production directly links logistics demand to heavy-duty transport decarbonisation,” Rockcheck stated. The firm, which has 11 hydrogen refueling stations and 700 fuel-cell cars, wants to deliver 10,000 trucks in five years using its supply chain to recruit equipment manufacturers to Baotou.
The project will boost Baotou’s “wind-solar-hydrogen-ammonia” ecosystem and demonstrate heavy-haul decarbonization throughout China’s industrial belt. The March launch of China’s first mass-produced 200kW fuel-cell heavy-duty trucks and Hyundai’s partnership with Guangdong Yuanshang Logistics to deploy 1,000 vehicles by 2029 indicate hydrogen freight’s growing pace.
Liu Junyi, Secretary of Baotou City’s Jiuyuan District Committee, Liu Shi, Chairman of the District People’s Congress Standing Committee, Zhang Ronghua, Chairman of Rongcheng Group’s Board of Directors, Jiao Jia, Deputy General Manager of Huadian Inner Mongolia Energy Co., Ltd., Wei Gang, Director of the Baotou Transportation Service Center, Li Zhigang, Northern Hydrogen Energy Technology Innovation Research Center, and Z On behalf of the three parties, Cao Yongwei, Deputy Director of the Baotou New Materials Industrial Park Management Committee, Wang Xinyu, Party Secretary and Director of Inner Mongolia Huadian Hydrogen Energy Company, and Lu Caiyin, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Rongcheng Group, signed the agreement.
The agreement states that the three parties will coordinate the innovation and development of Baotou’s “wind, solar, and hydrogen coupling, production, storage, transportation, and use” and industrial chain integration, realize the market application of green hydrogen technology and energy fields, accelerate industrial chain implementation, build a hydrogen energy full industry chain ecosystem, and create a clean, low-carbon, safe,
Rongcheng Group’s five businesses include Rockcheck New Energy Group, which integrates hydrogen energy solutions. The Rongcheng strategy focuses on the integrated hydrogen energy industry chain, including production, storage, transportation, refueling, utilization, research, and equipment manufacturing, to conserve energy, reduce emissions, and sustain transportation. In this collaboration, Rongcheng New Energy will use its platform and industry chain advantages across upstream, midstream, and downstream to promote hydrogen heavy-duty truck applications in Baotou and create a zero-carbon transportation demonstration scenario.
This year, 100 hydrogen heavy-duty vehicles will be launched, followed by 1,000 by 2026. Leading hydrogen energy industrial chain businesses will be brought to Jiuyuan District, commercial hydrogen refueling stations will be built, and a hydrogen energy digitalization demonstration platform will be implemented. Hydrogen energy application platform technology, data collecting, mining, and application, and safe operation and administration of all industrial linkages will be provided by this platform. Create a zero-carbon logistics demonstration park in Jiuyuan District to promote, apply, operate, and manage hydrogen heavy-duty vehicles.
Liu Junyi and his delegation visited Rongcheng’s green electricity and green water hydrogenation integrated project, commercial oil and hydrogen integrated energy station, hydrogen fuel cell production base, intelligent transportation platform, and hydrogen energy big data platform to learn about the company’s innovative practices and industrialization achievements in hydrogen energy “production, storage, transport, and
