The European Commission authorised €1.3 billion, which is equivalent to $1.5 billion, in German state aid for renewable hydrogen production on May 20, 2026, so as to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as dependence on Russian fossil fuels.
Auctions-as-a-Service by European Hydrogen Bank
The German state aid for renewable hydrogen production relies on the Auctions-as-a-Service from the European Hydrogen Bank when it comes to the auction which ended in 2026, the Commission went on to confirm it in a statement.
Electrolyser Capacity and Emissions Lowering
The approved scheme will facilitate the building of almost 1,000 MW of electrolyser capacity in order to produce around 10 million metric tonnes of hydrogen so as to displace around 55 million tonnes of CO2.
Apparently, the green hydrogen market is facing a rough patch, with Thyssenkrupp Nucera, the German electrolyser maker, cautioning that customers are still delaying investment choices.
