The European Commission authorised โฌ1.3 billion, which is equivalent toย $1.5 billion,ย in German state aid for renewable hydrogen production on May 20, 2026, so asย to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as dependence on Russian fossil fuels.
Auctions-as-a-Service by European Hydrogen Bank
The German state aid for renewable hydrogen production relies on the Auctions-as-a-Service from the European Hydrogen Bank when it comes to theย auction which ended in 2026, the Commission went on to confirm it in aย statement.
Electrolyser Capacity and Emissions Lowering
The approved scheme will facilitate the building of almostย 1,000 MW of electrolyser capacity in orderย to produce aroundย 10 million metric tonnes of hydrogen so asย to displace aroundย 55 million tonnes of CO2.
Apparently, the green hydrogen market is facing a rough patch, with Thyssenkrupp Nucera, the German electrolyser maker,ย cautioning that customers are still delaying investment choices.
