AI Summary

DCL International Inc., which is a member of the DCL Technology Group and a world leader when it comes to advanced catalytic technologies, on October 13, 2026, announced that it has been awarded advisory services and up to $400,000 in funding from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program – NRC IRAP so as to support a research and development project with TECO Electric and Machinery Co., Ltd., which is based in Taiwan, to advance next-generation green hydrogen production.

It is well to be noted that the one-year project, Advancing Anion Exchange Membrane Electrolysis for Green Hydrogen, is going to develop and demonstrate Anion Exchange Membrane Water Electrolysis – AEM-WE technology that has the potential to enable more efficient, environmentally friendly, and lower-cost hydrogen production.

Green hydrogen is made by using renewable electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. The DCL-TECO collaboration will work on an AEM electrolyzer technology targeting high efficiency and robustness with more abundant and possibly cheaper materials. DCL will create and test advanced electrocatalyst formulations for the membrane electrode assemblies – MEAs of the system, and TECO will incorporate those components into the electrolyzer.

The project, which makes way for advancing next-generation green hydrogen production is additionally backed by Ionomr Innovations, which will offer materials and assistance for the use and optimization of their advanced membrane technology, and the Clean Energy Innovation Research Center from the National Research Council of Canada and Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute – ITRI, which will provide electrochemical testing, reliability assessment, and validation of the system.

According to the technical director at DCL International, Shazam Williams, “Green hydrogen has tremendous potential, but cost and efficiency remain significant hurdles to broader adoption. AEM technology gives us an opportunity to combine high-performance electrolysis with more readily available materials. By bringing together DCL’s expertise in advanced catalyst technology with TECO’s electrolyzer engineering capabilities and the specialized knowledge of our research partners, we are working to move this technology from the lab toward a practical, scalable solution.”

More affordable green hydrogen technology can be used in many industries, including steel mills and chemical plants, as well as semiconductor fabs. Green hydrogen can also be used as an energy storage medium for renewable energy, like wind and solar, by converting surplus renewable electricity to hydrogen and conserving it for future use.

At the end of the project, the consortium will have developed a more efficient, sustainable, and scalable hydrogen production technology. Williams went on to add that “This project is an important step toward demonstrating that green hydrogen can be produced using technologies that are both high-performing and more economically practical. Our goal is to generate the performance and engineering knowledge needed to advance AEM electrolysis toward broader industrial adoption, while helping expand the role of clean hydrogen in the global energy transition.”
