OQ Alternative Energy – OQAE has signed an offtake term sheet with Asyad Group in order to investigate the possible usage of green hydrogen in mobility applications in Oman, linking the nascent green hydrogen production capacity of the country with potential low-carbon mobility solutions.
As per the pact, Asyad is going to investigate the possible use of green hydrogen that is generated through the green hydrogen deployment project in Duqm by OQAE when it comes to hydrogen-powered mobility applications. The initiative related to green hydrogen in mobility applications in Oman aims to facilitate the establishment of the infrastructure, operational capacity, and market experience which is needed to create a hydrogen mobility spectrum in Oman.
The partnership will combine the green hydrogen production capabilities of OQAE along with the logistics and mobility operations of Asyad, with the parties involved looking to explore the application of hydrogen when it comes to transport and various other difficult-to-access sectors. The project could also serve as a benchmark for technologies and business models prior to broader commercial implementation.
According to the CEO of OQ Alternative Energy, Salim Al Kamyani, “the next phase of Oman’s hydrogen journey is about moving from potential to practical application,” said Salim Al Kamyani, CEO of OQ Alternative Energy. “This partnership with Asyad is an important step in that direction, connecting green hydrogen production with a real mobility use case and creating an opportunity to build experience across the full value chain.”
He further added that the demonstration projects can help build up local capacity, infrastructure and market trust while at the same time offering knowledge about the technologies and commercial models which is needed to scale the hydrogen economy.
In addition to this, he said that Oman is well-positioned to be a competitive producer and exporter when it comes to renewable energy and green hydrogen and developing domestic demand would be crucial to creating a robust hydrogen ecosystem.
Says Ahmed Al Bulushi, CEO of Asyad Drydock & Infrastructure Services, the collaboration will enable the group to explore green hydrogen as part of the decarbonization of the transport sector and also evaluate applications throughout the logistics and mobility value chain.
The participation by Asyad is aimed at building operational experience, collaborations, and infrastructure which could support the creation of low-carbon transport solutions and at the same time also solidify the position of Oman as a logistics hub.
