H2Pro, a company that is into hydrogen technology, and Doral Hydrogen, a company that’s a renewable energy specialist, are working together to build a 50MW green hydrogen project in Spain at Extremadura.
Enagás, the transmission service operator – TSO, will mix the renewable hydrogen into the gas grid of the country as part of the project.
Initially, it is going to run a 5MW decoupled water electrolyser – DWE which will be powered by 10MW of solar energy. In the later phase, it will expand to 50MW of electrolysis along with 80MW of solar capacity.
H2Pro and Doral Hydrogen consider this 50MW green hydrogen project in Spain as first of its kind so as to mix hydrogen by way of using only solar power, which is not connected to the grid.
H2Pro says that its DWE systems can go ahead and operate even when the solar power is not steady.
Tzahi Rodrig, who is the CEO of the company, opines that its technology, along with the expertise Doral has in renewable energy, may demonstrate a new way so as to make hydrogen off the grid in a way that actually makes sense financially.
“The ability to operate on intermittent renewable power, with endless on and off cycles and high efficiency at partial loads, is critical to unlocking lower-cost green hydrogen,” he continued.
It is well to be noted that Doral Hydrogen, which is Doral Group’s green hydrogen subsidiary, is already working on 1GW of green projects across the US, the Middle East, and Europe as well as Australia.
Interestingly, people are still very divided when it comes to hydrogen blending. As per critics, it could as well lower the value of hydrogen because emissions only go down by about 7% even when the mixture is 20%, which is usually considered safe.
But early adopters, like gas network operators, go on to see it as a way to show that hydrogen is all set and keep their assets useful in a system that is by all means getting rid of carbon.
